"Watches You Sleep" Shark
Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
Drops today for PC. IOS version drops next week. The game will support cross platform play for mp. Not sure how this works but I figure each person controls a different person in the party?
Any one picking it up? I figure I might grab it for IOS.

I'm really excited. I never played the first one and only got a forth of the way through the second one.
That said, the plan is to make an enhanced version of the 2nd game and ultimately a new 3rd entry into the series (as well as an enchanced ice wind dale, enhanced planescape torment, and new torment sequel) if the 1st and 2nd "remakes" sell well.

Is there any way to download the game without having to install another download service? I saw something where you buy it from Beamdog and then use another link from them to bypass their client but that didn't make any sense to me. Maybe it works?

Demetrius I of Macedon was offended when the Spartans sent his court a single envoy, and exclaimed angrily, "What! Have the Lacedaemonians sent no more than one ambassador?" The Spartan responded, "Aye, one ambassador to one king."

When you buy it you have two options. "Download the standalone installer, download beamdog download manager"
I did the standalone. I ended up downloading it late last night (had to swap and copy my data/games drive to the warranty replacement before it fully died), so I only got to the launcher screen. What worries me is that the launcher seems like it is very "web connected" from what I could see. If this game can't be played offline I'll be pissed.

I'm not a fan of the PC port. Looks like there is a lot of bloat ware on there which I think is a combo of DRM and Beamdog's own multiplayer system. This won't be an issue for IOS users, which is the version I'll be getting.

I'm super curious to see if this actually works for iOS. If it does, I feel like this could be a game changer for the platform. BG is orders of magnitude deeper than every iOS that's come out.

So no internet connection required to play. But you do have to launch the game through their launcher, which has your "beamdog credentials" stored in it... If you try and launch the game directly, it says as much.
I'm not a huge fan, but it runs and it runs at full screen resolution, 1920x1200, so that's something.
Downside, my old save game editors (gatekeeper) doesn't work on the new files. Sure it's cheating, but I've played through this game a dozen times, I'm doing this for nostalgia. Not because I'm teh h4rdc0rez.

The new game allwos for new build types and some new characters. I figure it makes sense that old saves won't work. That said, you can grab a crack on line to bypass the beamdog manager. Its what I do for games that use games for window live

They sold me The Precursors and Xenus II: White Gold at bargain prices so I can forgive them many things.

I got Doom for my original iPaq (the first smart phone, years before iPhone.) I have a bunch of old PC games running on my Android. Porting early 90's games isn't a major breakthrough. The fact is that our phones are more powerful than PC's were in that era. It doesn't mean that Skyrim will play on the iPad.

You're right, this really isn't anything new. You can actually already get Baldur's Gate and other Infinity Engine games running on Android! https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ge.gemrb&hl=en

I disagree with this. Have a look at some of the more hardcore games currently available on iOS:
http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/products.html (Only 3 games on iPad right now, but these games are basically Baldur's Gate without the D&D ruleset.)
