    rj45 led question

Sorry for my absence, hope you guys still want to help me.

Just received my gigabyte z97 mobo intel chip and the likes.

Put everything together in a r4 case(get it, its awesome) and after plugging in the internet connector none of the led's light up(the ones at the back panel.

Everything else is working cpu fan gpu fans case fans etc.

Just want to make sure that if there is an active internet connection(there is) they will glow.

Do you need the motherboard lan (through either download or CSD) drivers to connect or will windows 8 take care of that?

I cant connect this new rig to connect.

this might turn into a new egg rant. box looked opened and damged, wonder if previous guy couldn't connect either.

The LEDs will light up when there is a successful link, yes. That is pretty much done at the hardware level if I remember right. If you aren't getting link lights, try the same connection/cable/etc. on a laptop or another system to verify that it isn't anything "downstream" of the PC. If the other computer gets a link without issue, it's your systems LAN port. If the other computer does not get a link, then it is time to start troubleshooting things like the cables.

Thanks for reply James, turns out that for a z97 chipset you need lan or drivers for the lights to go.

That seems very odd. But I'm glad you found the solution!
