    New memory for Gateway M285?

So I tried using Gateway's website to download all the documents for this laptop so I could figure out what kind of memory to get (I don't have the laptop in hand).

You can't search for the model but you can pick notebooks, M series, then 285. Basically I want to order 2x2gb sticks of memory and upgrade it to either Vista 64-bit or Windows 7. It looks like it has drivers for Vista so I may stick with that not sure. Anyway, since this is an old laptop I don't want to buy new memory ($70+) and would prefer to buy used memory to keep costs down. Am I right in thinking that I need to look for SODIMM, DDR2, and at least 5300/667 speed? For example I should be able to buy this right?

    Thanks!

Looks like the default memory is PC2-4200 (533MHz). I don't see using 667MHz as a problem, as long as you are replacing both modules at the same time.

Wow you're still here? This place is a ghost town! Where did everyone go?

I got this and it works great:

    4GB (2x2GB) Laptop RAM PC2-6400S SODIMM / DDR2 800

Also put windows 7 on it and she loves her laptop again! She was ready to buy a new one!
