XP - Streaming media stuttering, audio problems
Hi,
I was handed a laptop, Dell Inspiron 1501 running windows XP and it seems to have a problem playing streaming media, Adobe Flash & HTML5 videos.
Basically referring to Youtube, NetFlix and a local TV station's streaming content.
The problem presents like a codec issue.
Video plays ok, audio goes out of sync and the sound starts stuttering.
The actual quality of the audio isn't great, it's bit sharp & piercing sounding or something.
It occurs when using both IE8 and Chrome.
I first performed the usual Malware Bytes scan, only 1 minor thing detected.
AVG scans clean.
I then did a clean boot into XP and confirmed the problem remained.
I've updated device drivers: audio, chipset, gfx and bios too.
I uninstalled Adobe FlashPlayer, restarted, re-installed.
Initially that looked promising but the problem returned.
Tried turning off and on "Enable hardware acceleration" in FlashPlayer but no noticeable difference.
Thing is, i can't help viewing this problem as a codec issue.
But I am not sure if HTML5 & Adobe Flash Player are using what codecs or how to tackle that.
Anybody else run into something similar before?

Sorry, forgot to add that i have also ran CCleaner, and also manually purged temporary internet files.
Disabled plugins in Chrome too.

Depending on the specs of your system, you may need to shut down just about everything else for it to run efficiently (lag). Additionally, what is the speed of your network when you are watching? Are others on the same network?

10mb connection.
It's not a network speed issue as i have a desktop and 2 other laptops and I am able to stream media on all these devices at the same time.
But I can obviously not use the 3 other machines and allow this Dell laptop to hog the connection, but the problem is the same.
It's more like a bufffering issue, if it's not codecs.
The audio quality when streaming media seems unique in it's sharpness, including some crackling sounds when it it stutters.

Hammerhead Shark
Did it ever worked OK with this type of Media?
It might be that the 1501 is simply too old to what you expecting it to do.
Many older Laptops are still ok for regular tasks, but their Video card is not strong enough to perform heavy Video work.
