    CPU speed bouncing around

Take a look at my sig for my computer specs. I was using it about 12 hours ago and it was working super. I just got a new desk (computer was on the floor). I opened up the sucker and used pressurized air to clean out the dust. Just incase, I pressed each of the parts to seat in.

My CPU (stock at 3.5 - no OC done) is bouncing between 1.9-3.8Ghz. I'm not sure if this is something that's been going on for a while or just started

It's the Turboclock feature. It tries to save power as needed if the BIOS allows it to. (standard or power saver bios settings). You could in theory run it full tilt all the time by disabling turbo boost, but you would lower it's max frequency to the "rated" frequency. If the CPU has the thermal headroom it will overclock, when it's not under heavy load, it will simply down clock to save power.

    Rated frequency: 3.5GHz
    Max single core freq: 3.9GHz
Min frequency: ~1.6GHz (I don't remember precisely, but it's close to my 2600K, which is at 1.6GHz while I type this.)
