    sometimes the computer freezes up

ok... here's the deal: I watch a movie, sometimes the computer freezes up. this occurs sometimes with movies on the main hard drive, secondary, and/or flash drive. the computer freezing only happens with movies (avi and mkv only really). it doesnt happen while surfing the net, killing zombies, or emulating a virtual computer with vmware. hell... it doesn't even freeze while I'm watching porn. my guess: it started happening about a month or two after I upgraded from a 8800gt to my current 4850. I removed all of nvidia's drivers and installed the latest 4800 series driver.

    any idea?

edit: I also have the cpu running at stock speed, because at first I thought the OC was causing the problem. for some reason, I feel if I underclock the ram and not have it running at 1:1, the problem would go away. that's just a hunch.

You switched from nVidia to ATI. Make sure that their is No nvidia processes still running in the Background.

The place too look is Win Services, and using Apps like cCleaner StartUp tool as well as inspection of running Processes with Process Explorer.
