Sony MZ-R50 Minidisc Recorder- Test Mode to repair?

    Hi,
I have a Sony MZ-R50 minidisc recorder, bought from new, which was working well approximately 8 years ago. When I tried to play it recently, the disc could not be read?.If I lightly shake,I can get it to work correctly, even after turning it off. Can I use the 'Test Mode',in some way to automatically correct any mis- alignment?
    thank you (my first post)
