    Zen 2 / Ryzen 3000 rumors...

We’re getting awfully close to the launch of Zen 2. AMD was reportedly aiming for a 15% clock for clock improvement over Zeno combined with higher clock speeds it gets awfully close to Intel.

If the rumored specs are true, we’re talking 6 core and 12 thread for sub $150 , and 12 core 16 thread for under $500 at high clock rates. It gives me hope for a nice CPU price war.

I’m very discrete. I have no code of brand loyalty. I will build anything, anywhere; Gaming PC, workstation, HTPC, doesn’t matter. I just love building.

Wow, hardly anyone around these days. I have not posted here in a bit as I'm in Toronto now, been here for a couple of months now and you know the old saying about idle hands.....bought myself a Samsung S5e, some 4K Bluray movies, and have started ordering parts for a new rig.

All this hoopla about Ryzen 3000 series that I'd decided to hitch a ride on the bandwagon, I have ordered 4x8GB DDR4 RAM, a Sabrent 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD (boot drive). I have paid for and reserved a Ryzen 3900X which I plan to pick up in a few days' time.

Will be buying an X570 mobo when I get back home (for local warranty), as well as a case....repurposing one of my PSU's for this build, perhaps a couple of 4TB HDD's for games.

Spec'ing the heck outta it! Have gotten a 2TB Samsung SSD for games which I know the SSD isn't big enough for. So, when I get back from Toronto in early August, I have arranged to meet up with a guy who's selling a server grade Samsung 7.68TB SAS SSD, but I will need a HBA (Host Bus Adapter) to get it to work in a desktop PC. This one is gonna cost me, so I'll do a little more research.

I will be back home next week, I'd prolly shop around a day or two for a case, mobo and a 280mm/360mm AIO cooler for the CPU. Will be back with pics and such.....of the new rig.

If you get a chance to take more pics or get some benchmarks/reviews in that would be awesome. Interested in hearing more regardless of what you go for. Very cool

Will try to accommodate you, I'm one lazy dude...but will try. Some gaming benchmarks like Tomb Raider, Metro 2033 series, will see what other benchmark programs I can download for free.

My rig is up and running, I can't figure out if the AIO pump is faulty, or Gigabyte monitoring software is wonky. I've been told to use Ryzen Master instead, and that the spikes is to be expected, even a 2700X user told me he has spikes in temp on his setup as well. Still, when temp on my CPU idles at about 33C, but when I do something light, like running installations of software, or opening GPUZ, the CPU temp would spike to about 60C before dropping back to 30+C .....really playing havoc with my mind! The RAM does look pretty nice though, but the hassle of all those extra RGB cables and where they're supposed to be connected almost drove me up a wall.

    Another shot of the system...

Just dropped in to say my systems specs has finally been finalized, just installed final two component, now running the system to check for stability. Monitoring the crazy spikes in temps that I'm seeing, though I've been told this is normal. Anyway, will run my new rig for a week or two to break it in before I run some benchmark. Basically, my rig would be:
    AMD AM4 3900X
    Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme
256GB Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2
    4x 8GB XPG Spectrix D60H DDR4 3200 (running at 3200Mhz, was doing 2666Mhz previously)
    PowerColor VEGA64 Red Devil
    2TB Samsung 860 QVO SSD
    4TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD
    6TB WD Black HDD
    Corsair HX1000 Plat
    CoolerMaster H500M chassis
    64bit Win10 Pro

I don't think the airflow is good enough for 2x VEGA64 which vent heated air within the case, so I'll transfer the 2x GB VEGA64 Gaming OC into my i7 3960X rig (Caselabs M8 case, very good airflow). So, when the time comes, I'd be testing with a single VEGA64. Just ran some Crystaldiskmark on all my SSD's (I don't believe it stresses my system in any way, hence I ran it) -
    256GB Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 Gen 3 X4

4TB Samsung 860 EVO (partitioned into two roughly equal partitions)

    2TB Samsung 860 QVO

    That looks fantastic!

So are you saying that it looks like the spikes you're seeing are the norma for the new chips? Any info on whether it's a real spike or a software quirk?
