I'd get a Lite-on burner and a 1700 xp and spend the money saved on a GF 3. I would also get a Epox EP-8KHA+, it's cheaper than a KG-7 and arguably better. Even the $89 Shuttle AK31 based on the KT266A chipset I just setup is faster than a KG7, albeit with a less feature filled bios as Abit's. I don't just think this, it's what the benchies of the 761 and the KT266A prove.

Cause they are 1/2 the price of a plextor, and they burn just about anything-perfectly. Plextor is widely regarded as the best burner but lite-on is far and away the best value, price/performance wise.

Hmmm I beg to differ Soldier. If you're running Raid0 you're goint to have much faster disk access than in non-raid. Here's a bench of my rig running Raid0 which clearly shows a much faster access rate over a non-raid board

The only down side when running Raid 0 is BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP $ BACKUP.
If one disk fails ALL YOUR DATA IS LOST!
(This wasn't aimed at you KJY9).
And I Agree Raid 0 will BOOST your HD performance.

I love my Plextor, but I've also heard NOTHING but great things about the Lite-On. You'll be happy either way you go.
I'd suggest going with a RAID setup. You get TWICE the burst rate of a normal harddrive setup, and for alot of us who share movies and large soundfiles, that means a lot.
But, you'll have to buy two identical drives, which it looks like you are. I kinda wish I'd gotten it when I had the opportunity.
Also, for the graphics card, you can get a Radeon8500, arguably the best GPU on the market, for about $250. Get the AthlonXP 1700+ for almost $100 less and upgrade your graphics card. I don't think you'd regret that decision one bit.
About the Klipsch...they ARE Klipsch, arguably the best sound quality for a PC setup. The Klipsh 4.1's have the best subwoofer I've ever heard (i don't know if the 2.1s have the same sub or not...I would imagine so, but I'm not sure), bar none. My suggestion is to go to a store and listen to the two setups side-by-side. THen make your decision. I mean, its WELL worth it to actually HEAR the quality of sound in the speakers before you buy.

I agree 1,000% Predator2!! I just had a 40GB IBM drive go down last week...thank goodness for the extra 60Gb of backup that I had. But the same thing can be said of non-raid as well...."you lose the drive and you lose everything". So by backing up, you're not doing anything extra that you shouldn't be doing anyway.

I Feel your LOSS.(the IBM HD).
And your right about the one HD but like one wrote somewhere on the Internet that your twice as likly to have a failure when using 2 HD instead of one, you might not but the chance is there.
Backup is to most neglected security feature in todays security.Sad to say.

I would get a faster video card and a much bigger HD.
Get a Ti200 if you want to get a cheap geoforce3 card(or an original geoforce3 when they start going on fire sale) or go all out and get the Ti500 or Radeon 8500. your video card is going to have the greatest impact on your system with that fast of a processor and the geoforce2 pro is long in the tooth now.
20 gig HD gets filled up pretty quickly also.
For a monitor I'd get at least a 19" and with as flat a screen as you can afford. Monitor size has a large impact on your gameing and enjoyment of a system.

I've had two go down in the past year..that's out of 8 drives. Not a great ratio, and their RMA dept sux. They held onto my last rma for 3 weeks before shipping out my new drive, whereas Maxtor shipped out the day after they received one of my drives. I'm still not sure that the extra performance you get out of an IBM drive is worth the poor customer service.

Unfortunetly
they do seem to have a high failure rate. Almost everyone I know with an IBM hard drive has had at least one RMA. Others like me, have had six or seven RMA'd drives. (lost count somewhere along the line.)
