Question NT 4.0 Mystery Icon OverWrite

Its a long story but here goes...please bear with me. I am a teacher at an alternative school. All our classes are on computers. Sometimes the students decide they need to adjust default settings and I have to try and get everything back to the same on all 15 computers. The same exact problem has now ocurred on 2 separate computers but started from the same operations I believe. The problem is when you go to make a shortcut and the program selects the correct desktop icon for the shortcut..but imbedded over the top of the correct icon is a second icon...like the disk drive icon..Both NT 4 machines doing this started out with huge icons on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I mistakenly right clicked in the middle of the taskbar went to properties and tried to checkmark the box that says show small icons on the start menu....what i should have done was right clicked closer to the start button...and selected small in the view options. Anyway the old desktop icons on both computers are normal...but any new desktop icons..have that freakin second icon embedded over the top...it doesnt hurt anything but students are always asking what happened? I tried posting this at Microsoft nt4 forum and they told me to re-format. But I dont want to go to all that trouble...IS it possible that this is a common problem with a quick fix?

    Try downloading TweakUI from www.tweakfiles.com

It will install an applet in your control panel called (drumroll...) "TweakUI". In the utility there's a button under the "repair" tab that says "rebuild icons". That may do the trick. Sometimes you have to do it each time you boot for several boots before it starts behavin'.

    P.S.

Look in the Appearance section at tweakfiles for TweakUI.

More than likely TweakUI is the problem! Not the cure! Check in Software if it's installed if it is kill it! And after the deinstall the problem still happens then NT repair may do the trick.

TweakUI work great under 98 but just fuggs up NT! Also if you have NT on your computers profile the install away that the kids cant do it again.
