Talking Unreal Tournament + GeForce2 Pro = ROCKS!!!!!

Just wanted to say anyone playing Unreal and who was thinking about upgrading to a GeForce card - dont hold back. I had a Viper2 running metal drivers which gave pretty good pic quality and high FPS (60 -70)
& stability. But I needed that little bit extra edge. So I tried the GeForce Hercules Prophet 64mb PRO . I had tried the original GeForce (3 different makes) when they first came out and had nothing but lockups in games. I swore off Geforce forever, but the new drivers 6.35 version make this newer card scream while being stable. It will cruise UT at over 100 FPS while looking good.
Make sure you download the drivers (Renderer)from Epic for unreal. I run UT in either D3d or Opengl. If you run the original UT drivers the picture will be quite dark and hard to see the enemy. The new drivers from Epic force you to turn down the brightness which I never had to do before. Picture looks awesome. No lockups at all - it's been running non-stop for 24 hrs so far. I played all sorts of games with it too. Q3, NHL Hockey 2001, with np probs.
So I say go for it.

    My system specs are:
    Athlon 800 K7
    Gigbyte 7ix
    256 Ram
    GeForce2 64 Prophet Pro
    IBM 20g hardrive 7200

Cool, I just bought that same card. My current card is okay, but causes problems in UT and Deus Ex. I'm hopeing to solve the problem. I just hope it's not Win2K that's killing my games.

I had problems with my GeForce 2 and UT. I am running win2k and in DirectX the gameplay was really laggy. I changed over to OpenGL and everything was fine.

Oh yeah - I running Win98 SE with DirectX 7.0. I'm a little afraid to try DirectX 8.0 due to hearing stability problems. Any feedback would help.

So, what are these special driver from Epic you are talking about?

I am running a Hercules Prophet 2 Ultra with 1.1GHz T-Bird. Have you tried utilizing the FSAA? I have been messing around with it tonight and you can play UT at 1024x768x32 at 4X FSAA! Not too shabby.

    Cool

I run UT in D3D right now at 1024x768x32. With VSYNC off it hovers pretty close to 125 fps which blows me away. ONly using patch 4.36 and stock renderer. i tried the UT S3TC disk and the LOKI ogl but it was studdery. I may try this new renderer too. I too am not using DX 8 cuz of the lack of DX 8 drivers from nVidia though there are 7.17's which apparently are buggy I've read. I guess the renderer works with DX 7 obviously too.

    Question

Hey I noticed you have the KT7-Raid. have you tried the 3D Prophet II Pro with this mobo yet? I have both and I kept getting the beeps when I tried to start it up. I read on the go.to/kt7faq website that there is a known problem with this combo that Guillemot acknowledges. They will repair it if you RMA it. I was just curious to know if you've had any success with it or have RMA'd it to Guillemot. I'm considering RMA'ing it back to the vendor and getting the Hercules Ultra instead.

    Wink

The Epic drivers are the "Renderer" drivers you install in the Unrealtournament/systems folder. These are the D3D & opengl .dll files. I want to say that when I installed the D3D renderer driver I had a decrease in FPS and overall performance, aproximately 50%, so I put the original D3D driver back.
I installed the Loki opengl drivers over the weekend. These drivers rock!!
Make sure you edit your Unrealtournament.ini file to take advantage of the S3TC textures.
I made two screenshots of the D3D & Opengl. The Opengl blows away the D3D in looks, but performance is about the same. It also took care of that stuttering I was getting in opengl before.

On the flip side - What are the best GeForce drivers out right now? I'm currently running the Hercules 6.35? I've heard the Nvidia 6.50 are good? Any comments?
