I don't think the GF3 Ti-200 will be that much better than the GF2 Ultra. It may even perform worse in some gains. And it might not be able to run some games well (anything that uses the Doom 3 engine) in a couple years. Don't get me wrong - I have the 64 MB version. It's a great card. But I'm not planning on keeping it for two years, and I had a much worse card than a GF2 Ultra (V3 3000 PCI).

The GF4 Ti-4200 will only be about $15 more than the card you mentioned ($200 instead of $185). It also has 128 MB of RAM, will run quite a bit faster and should last at least 6 months longer than the GF3 Ti-200. Since you are running on a GF2 Ultra, it seems like it would certainly pay for you to wait a few months to get a much better card.

Upgrading a GeForce2 Ultra isn't worthwhile right now, until ATI forces nVidia to lower prices on the GeForce4 Ti4400 and Ti4600 a bit. That should happen in a month or two.

Wait a few months, your gf2 ultra is great right now. Then get the best you can afford. And you may gain about 2 years of sweetness with tactic

Go over to Anandtech.com. He just put out a very good review of the GF4 line. It seems like the card priced at $199 would be the best buy. I recently purchased a Gainward GF3-Ti200 for about $160. Its a great card
but after reading Anands review I probably would have waited for the GF4.

I really think he should wait for the RV250 or the R300 if only to purchase the GF4 at a lower price. At the very least wait 'til March for a modest price cut.

I'm glad I bought my GF3 Ti 200, but I doubt it has run anywhere near its potential yet. Unless you're putting some hellacious demands on your video card, I think your GF2 Ultra will continue to serve you for quite a while. Don't let the new video chip hype gouge your wallet.
