    Post Home Networking?

I need some help to setup a home network. It will be a basic network, sharing printer, internet connection and file sharing. I was also going to build a new computer and I wanted to know what i should look for or does it matter that much. I don't need a server, right, if i just want to have a small network. Also I know if you have cable and there are lots of people online it is really slow, but if i share the same connection will it be really slow. I know very little about networking and any good websites would be very helpful, thanks.

A good starting place for a home network, IMO, is a Linksys (or other brand, but I use Linksys products) network starter kit. You get a hub (sometimes a switch, depending on the kit), two nics and two patch cables and drivers. Everything you need to get started. Sharing your cable connection with people in your home will not significantly alter your speed (unless you are all doing large downloads simultaneously).
