Post SmartMedia Flash Card Size Q:

OK, so I just got my Rio PMP300, its got a smart media card expansion slot, my question is this... some information on the player says that its limited to 32meg upgrades, others say "including but not limited to 32meg smart media cards" any one have experience with something like this? Im kinda worried about springing for a 128meg card and then finding out it doesn't work in it... someone help!!

I would say your safest bet would be to call the company or check their website and see what they say. I use smartmedia cards all the time here at work, and they are quite nice, but they aren't cheap, so you want to make sure it will take something above 32megs before you spend the cash on them.

For the past 2 digital cameras I had, i have been able to use a bigger SM card than the mfg said I could use. I even emailed the companies and asked them the largest size I could use, and the gave the typical response. We only guarantee it to work with X size card. My Ricoh camera said it could only use 32mb, but i put a 64 in there. I was amazed to see that the # of pictures left on the LCD display actually showed the correct #.

Expensive? Heck 64mb cards are around $27. 128Mb are a bit more at $60, but that's still dirt cheap. I remember paying that much for 4mb cards a few years back
