random USB pendrive usage- error messages

    Hi all,

please can anyone help me out with this problem i've been facing, when trying to use random pendrives (OS running XP and pc's are Viglen -TP motherboards):

Your presented with the following message when you intially double click the usb drive letter for the pendrive:

'Error loading .\\mprasi.dll. The specified module cannot be found'

Each time you unplug any pen drive and then reinsert any or the same pen drive the missing dll file changes, so far i've seen: '.\\bootvit.dll' , '.\\cnetcft.dll' , '.\\fdagres.dll' and '.\\uesetup.dll'. There are no doubt more of these random files not being found.
Oddly enough though, when carrying out a search in the registry for a couple of these files (bootvit.dll and uesetup.dll, they were found in these locations:

    bootvit.dll:- HKEY_Current_User\software\microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\MountPoint2\{6e8d06e6-ef7d-11dc-967c\0019d1de\rundll.exe bootvit.dll, InstallM

    uestup.dll:- HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1979075459-3940174925-1725696963\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explore r\MountPro rundll.exe uesetup.dll, InstallM

but trying a search in google and the microsoft website didnt seem to present and clues, only suggestions for what could have been a typo in their case 'did you mean 'mpraPsi.dll' ?', where the actual file was mpraSi.dll, each link relating to these files appeared to reffer to different programs, so perhaps there is not just 'one fix' for this and maybe a re-image here will help to resolve this issue.
The usb pendrives were reported to be working fine and could be accessed ok before this problem arose. Happens on all pc's too.

It may just be quicker to re-install the OS on these machines as an overall fix, but just wondered if anyone has come across this before and or found some kind of fix (even perhaps a known, bug free, registry fixer/cleaner, say)

    Thanks
    -Pete

Ive seen similar problems in computers ive repaired where random files cannot be found or loaded .... Usually a file gets corrupted which has many dependencies ... Various problems can cause this ....

The easiest way is to do a windows repair. Under XP for example, boot up the disc, press enter to setup windows, select the installation, press r for repair ....

After the process has finished all your data will stay intact but you'll need to remap your user documents accounts .....

Its really the quickest and easiest approach ....
    Compaq A910em: T2330 dual core 1.6Ghz, X3100 384MB GPU, 160GB sata HDD, 2GB RAM
    Gaming rig: Asus Striker II, Coolermaster GX 750w, E4600 @ 2.4Ghz, 2.5GB RAM, Zerotherm FZ 120, 9500GT 1GB
    Server: Mac mini running W23k Server - 1.8Ghz dual-core, 1GB RAM, 1x80GB, 2x500GB externals + LTO1 tape backup

It happened on all computers? All at once?

Is it a pendrive with pre-loaded crap software on it? I've had a batch which had it's own installation files and promo/games stuff on it.. just required a format of the pendrive.

Try the repair option 666 gives out on one computer, if it fixes, might be a bad image.

I just find it odd that they would all work on multiple PCs, and then all crap out at the same time.

I agree with this. Thats a better suggestion before carrying out windows repair.

Ive seen errors before with invalid or mac formatting but not in this style, purely where the flash drive isnt readable .....

One of the things i was insinuating before though was malware ....
