    PCTools Spyware Dr Error LP5

I'm unable to update the software suddenly & receive "Error while unpacking program, code LP5. Please report to author." PCTools has crap for support for this. Anyone experience and fix this?

I use Windows XP and just reformatted and reinstalled everything and this just started happening.

    Thx all in advance!

Install MS Security Essentials. It is free and effective. Download it here.

Download a Microsoft Product...Pffffffff! No thanks!

No one knows? I'm amazed. The Sharkey-nerds are stumped. That's a first in my experience

Your most likely culprits are antivirus interfering, active antispyware interfering, a corrupt package, or malware.

Given you're on a fresh install I'd start trying out each of the above in order. A quick google gives the impression PCTools has had this problem off an on through the years.

As for the MS product, you aren't really stuck with it. Pick your favorite spyware app and run with it.

Nerds makes decision based on technology, Not on Social Desirability, or whatever the Computer's vendor installs as a trial because they got money for it.

At the moment the best solution, and the least expensive. As in Free.

Windows Defender as an AntiSpyware (installs with the OS in Vista and Win 7).

Windows security Essentials as AntiVirus. http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

PCTools Firewall as a software Firewall. http://www.pctools.com/firewall/

Vista/Win7 native firewall is very good too but impossible to configure and control it in fast intuitive way. It is a very good solution in IT environment where you can spend time to configure it once and then propagate over the Network, and forget about it.

However on a small Network, PCTools Firewall is much more flexible and very easy to control and configure.

The above three work forgather in harmony on both Vista and Win7.
