Which Hard Drive, and why???
I'm ordering a system, and have a choice of 3 hard drives...
1) Hitachi 120 GB Ultra 100 IDE 7200 rpm 8MB Cache
2) Western Digital 250 GB ATA100 IDE 7200 rpm 8MB cache
3) Seagate 80 GB SATA ST380013AS
I DON'T care about size. Which is fastest? Which is best? Why?
Thanks

GO BENGALS!!!!!
I would go with the WD SE 250GB hard drive. You will likely not run out of storage and it'll be a fast hard drive for you.

Of those three, and if that's the new model Hitachi, it will be the fastest (see storagereview.com and/or MaximimPC.com). However, if you've got onBoard or onChip SATA, the 10,000rpm WD Raptors are definately Kickazz!

What's SATA?
What advantage might a
----Seagate 80 GB SATA ST380013AS----
have over a
---Hitachi 120 GB Ultra 100 IDE 7200 rpm 8MB Cache---?
-
remember me?
Don't buy hitachi. Stick with wd, maxtor, or seagate. SATA is newer hard drive technology which uses smaller cables and also allows for generally faster data transfer. I don't use SATA so I don't know much about it. But if you can afford one I'd get one.

Okay let me break it down for you for the W/D Raptor
just go here and enough will be said, that and there is a 74GB larger cousin however it is a bit pricey right now

seagate's barracuda's are usually very quiet, shhh! but i'm not sure about this drive.
all 3 are good drives but seagate is the weakest since it only has 80GB. Hitatchi is making some fast drives nowadays since it bought IBM's hard drive division (hitachi desktar 7k250). WD is known for good drives.
check out www.storagereview.com for more info.
if prices are comparable, get the WD since it has almost twice the size.
