New CIVILIZATION game coming to consoles and handhelds

    http://www.dailytech.com/2K+Games+An...rticle7882.htm
One of the most popular PC video game franchises will be coming to game consoles in spring 2008, with the release of the latest game in the Sid Meier's Civilization franchise. Similar to previous Civilization games, players will build empires, but with several new twists thrown in. Some of the improvements include "accessible maps and streamlined time scale for quicker gamers, intense combat, and constant action."

Civilization Revolution -- developed by Firaxis Games, published by 2K Games -- is described as "a watershed game, offering players a chance to experience the epic empire-building world of Civilization in an all new accessible, visually immersive, and action-packed world specifically designed for the console and handheld gamer."
It hasn't been released yet which consoles will be getting the game. Definitely the 360 is since they talk about achievement points. And it has ONLINE MULTIPLAYER MODE!

    http://www.firaxis.com/news/news_detail.php?id=282
“Civilization Revolution is the game I’ve always wanted to make!” said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. “We are excited to take advantage of the power of next generation consoles and the ingenuity of handhelds, to create a great and unique strategy game for newcomers to the series, as well as the millions of fans around the world who enjoy Civilization on the PC.”
...Some of the key features that will resonate with fans of strategy games and the Civilization franchise include 16 civilizations to master and lead to victory, an array of famous historical leaders to play as or compete against, and accessible maps and streamlined time scale for quicker games, intense combat, and constant action. In online multiplayer mode, players will compete for world conquest and glory among their peers as they battle in teams, head-to-head or epic free-for-all matches. In addition, auto-matching, ranked games, leaderboards, achievements, downloadable extra content and integrated video and voice chat make the online play more versatile and fun than any previous version of Civilization and will allow players to see where they stand against the competition. Finally, the position of ruler of the world can be settled online.
    Awesome.
There is the theory of the moebius. A twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop.

I've been waiting for a portable Civ game ever since first playing Advance Wars on GBA.

Meh, sounds like marketing jargon for an extremely dumbed-down version, with little actual "civilization" building, and an emphasis on quick military build-up and battles.

I've always been very skeptical of most console strategy games, at least those ported from the PC or taken from original PC game concepts. If anyone can pull it off, it's Firaxis, but I can't help but think the best, most well-rounded Civ experience is easily going to be had on the PC.
I guess if you really need Civ "on-the-go"...

I would tend to agree but this type of game would work extremely well with the DS. You have the upper screen for the map and the bottom screen for the tool bar. Since its a touch screen just use your stylus as a mouse. If it was just a directional pad with some buttons like the PSP, it might be a little more difficult.

I hated going to the bathroom when I was playing CIV4. That and eating were the only things keeping me from playing 24/7. Now that I can take it with me in the pooper, I'm set

It would work well with the DS, but the problem is they specifically say "action-packed world specifically designed for the console and handheld gamer," which is not what I think of when I think Civ.

Dual Strike was SO awesome on DS. If only it had online multiplayer.

The Advance Wars series is my favorite portable gaming series, Dual Strike is pretty much the perfect game. I am DYING to get a new one with online multiplayer, but for now I still fire up AW:DS from time to time and battle the great AI.
