Question Buying new CPU and MotherB.

Hey there I'm using a 550 Athlon right now and the K7M board is dying on me, so I'm looking at my personal favorite, the 950 ThunderBird, with either a asus k7v or the a-bit kt7 board (which do you recomend for big stable overclocking, and also the 866 p3 with the asus board, any thoughts or experiences on this situation, please let me know. Thanks James.

I would reccomend the Abit KT7a Board with a 1ghz T-Bird. This will outpeform a Intel P3 at the same clockspeed.

i second that motion. the Iwill KK266 motherboard (KT133A chipset) is also supposed to be a great performer, with reports of people getting to 160mhz FSB (heard that on www.hardocp.com ). The KT7A-RAID is also worth a look, if you need more than 4 IDE devices. be sure to get a good heatsink/CPU fan in any case.

I would reccomend the FOP32-1 or the FOP38-1 to cool that hot T-Bird.

outpeform ? It will OWN the p3

The KT7A and the T-bird GHZ is a great choice
I mainly say this because the p3 is going no where all I can say for another option is waiting for the new p3 on .13micron.

Allright newbie!!! I see you lowerd down your "intel rules" thing. Thanks.

As for the topic, i think your ONLY choice is to get a mobo based on the KT133A chipset since according to Arcadian and a few other sources, all SocketA T-Birds realeased after the 1.3 model will be based on a standard 266DDR FSB, and that leaves out users with the KT133 chip. There are three other mobos on the KT133A chipset that i know of not counting the already said Iwill. Theres the KT7A from abit, the A7V133 from ASUS, and the 8KTA3 from Epox. The last is a nice mobo, probably the the cheapest of the bunch, and falls somewhere between KT7A's great OCing and A7V133's stability. You've prolly never heard of it, so heres a link to GamersDepot review: http://www.gamersdepot.com/hardware/.../8kta3/001.htm Got everything?

Upgradability. If it were me i wouldnt wanna get stuck with a mobo and a CPU after a year, and then have to buy all new stuff. BTW, that was still a joke, sorry if it offended you.

    No I didn't take offence
If you read my first post you will see that I mentioned the KT7A, Which IMHO is the best of the KT133A boards.

Best in OC. As i said, the ASUS is the stable board, and the Epox falls in between.
