CPU damaged?
Hi
Recently I send my PC to the shop where i bought it to upgrade my motherboard. I recieved it and then the problems start.
It crashed several times, and I re-installed windows. That did not helped. After a while I decided to check th temp. readings in the bios. It was 88 degrees celsius!!!!
I switch the PC off and sent it back to the shop.
Later they told me the technician installed the CPU fan the wrong way.
Now it is fine again, but is there a change that my CPU is damaged because of the heat it expierence during my attemps to get it up again? I think it must run for about 3 to 4 hours in that state.
Thanks for an eecellent forum

Well, I have a question for you as well. What do you have for a CPU? If its an AMD, then you may have damage to your core at those temps. If it was an Intel, it will probly be ok, since they are a bit more resistant towards temps.
If you experience any problems with your computer that you didnt have previous to your mobo upgrade, then I say you take it back to that shop and demand thay they replace your CPU for free.
If you dont experience any kind of problems, then you should be in the clear.

I just say that you go march back into that shop and demand they replace the CPU for you since they probably voided your warranty even if you didn't break anything. A voided warranty because of them should be reason enough to make them responsible in replacing it.

Thanks. It is a very informative website.
The CPU is a Intel Pentium 3 chip running at 600 mhz. It is the socket 370 type. The bios say it is a 600 mhz EB chip. Whatever EB means. My PC crash from time to time but I think that is normal. Win 98 SE?
Thanks for the reply

You should perform some stability test to find out whether the CPU is damaged. If it is, demand a replacement. My guess is, if it has been running well so far, it is probably fine. However, a stress test will quickly illuminate any problems.

The "E" means it's a Coppermine (there was a pre-coppermine P3, but I can't think of the name right now...). The "B" means the FSB(Front Side Bus) speed is 133mhz. Some P3's have a 100mhz FSB.
