    Need Updte Advi 4 Rockwell HFC ComboCard

    Have HP Pav 6460 with HFC combo fax/modem/sound card. only have half duplex sound. have only new drivers available from HP(only ones who havwe them).Want to add new Modem(was told have to to install new sound card(have to disable sound in bios? Thia all pretty much gobbygook to me put if I could find detailed instrucs I think I might be able to insatall the stuff . any suggestions other than DONT DO IT?
    What should I get for a reasonable priced card my HP has a 400 celeron so may not have many options. thanks

    You should try this.
    click F1 to enter bios while starting computer.(I think this is how you get there on HP)if not try delete or f8 key.
    go to "advanced"
    go to IO device configuration
    go to audio disable
    Should be something similar to that.

    But since you say its a combo card and not integrated onto the motherboard I don't see how you can disable it in the bios. If you can then try the above ,if not then use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall any sound related apps. This will include any apps that say Riptide, Sound Blaster or SB emulation. Boot into Safe Mode and disable all sound related listings by placing a check in the box next to "Disable in this hardware profile". Install the new sound card in an empty PCI slot, boot up and let Windows detect the new hardware. Windows may load a default driver or ask for the manufacturers disk. It may also ask for the Windows CD. If this happens, point the install to the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs
