    DVD burner question QUICK REPLY needed

    hey i am going on break from work to compusa i saw the buslink internal dvd burner for only 100 bucks. is that brand any good? is it a rebadged ______?

    or the HI-VAL dual format drive is only 120? any info on this one?

    and the MEMOREX one?

    i was aiming for the pioneer burner but if this is good quality ill pick it up no

    hmmm thought memorex only made cd's ??? guess they expanded

    I believe that it is a rebadged lite-on, I bought one myself.

    I don't know about the brands but did you check the specs like speed?

    Since he was going to purchase on his break the I guess he has already made a decision.
    But for all those considering the same options:

    The Hi-VAL is obviously a rebadged something but definitely not a rebadged Lite-On. Support and firmware upgrades are non-existent for this product. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot barge pole.

    The Memorex is a rebadged Pioneer drive and can actually be converted into an actual Pioneer DVR-106D with a special modofied firmware available on the net. The firmware is also RPC1 making the drive Region Free and 2X DVD-R as well as removing the limited 2X rip speed by implementing the 12X rip.
    It will be impossible to flash the drive back to a Memorex drive after this procedure and the warranty will also be voided.
