xp pro "My Network Places" problem

I have a cable modem into a D-Link wireless router into a D-Link NIC on my main computer and a D-Link wireless NIC on my second computer. I'm having big problems sharing drives and files between computers but my main concern is on the main computer when I go into My Network Places and click on view network connections I still see the taskbar up top and the bar on the bottom of the screen but the screen in the middle is off white in color and blank. I go into Task Manager and it shows not responding. What could be causing this? Any help would be great.

when you check taskmanager what program is listed as not responding ??

have you done any updates to your OS recently??

have you setup internet connection sharing on the internet connection ??

what OS are you using??

have you configured the wireless card for AP or AD-HOC ??

do you have a securty code on your wireless equipment...and do you have wiresll security turned on ??

can you answer those questions..

I'll try to answer the questions.
The only updates I do is Microsofts Updates and I don't think I have done any lately. Both of the computers have internet ability but I have the hardest time sharing files. There was one time they were both set up and I could see both of them from both computers and then one day I couldn't, that's when I tried to go into My Network Places and this problem happened. When I go into task manager it says My Network Places is not responding, it shows it twice one has an icon of a monitor with earth behind it and the second has a file icon. I don't know what AP or AD-HOC is so I don't know how it is set. I don't have any security code active on the router or the wireless nic. My OS is XP Pro. I'm new to networking so I'm learning as I go. I hope I haven't screwed it up to bad. Thanks for responding and thanks for any help.
