Wierd issue with audigy 2 installation

Hi....I got an audigy 2 value 6.1 card from a friend cos he wasnt using it. However when i plug it into the pci slot the computer is unable to recognise the sata hard disk. I really cant understand it and when i remove the card all things are fine. Is there some conflict or has the card died?

Do you have a VIA chipset?

Try updating the BIOS. This is a known problem with the VIA chipset on many boards. I am not sure if the BIOS update will fix it or not. Let us know after BIOS update. If that doesn't fix it you are pretty much SOL.

Hmm that is a weird problem, can you try moving the card to a different PCI slot?

Ive updated the Bios to 1005 which is the latest one available for the Asus K8V and i still am getting the same problem. Ive also tried the card in all 5 pci slots but am still unable to resolve the issue.
On the via arena forums a few users have said they have had the same issue. Apparently the Sound card conflicts with the Promise controller and hence the hard didsk is not recognised. I havent tried the latest via 4 in 1 drivers but i will do so and let you know.

Update : Installed the latest Via 4 in 1's but they did not help to resolve the issue either.

There is nothing you can do. You are pretty much SOL. Sorry. Don't pick a VIA motherboard next time.

Drivers will not do anything. This is a BIOS/Motherboard/Chipset issue. The drives aren't even recognized in the BIOS. I'm not sure the exact nature of the problem. It may be an incompatability with the chipset. It may be an IRQ sharing conflict. That's what I would look into.

Ive noticed that on viaforums that this is a problem wiwth most creative sound cards and there is no solution being given.
Apparently the only way is to disable Promise controller and use the onboard Sata.

Its working with the onboard SATA.
