    McAfee or Norton?

    Which is truly better?

I'm replacing my HDD tommorow, and have to make a decision on what's really better. I've been using Norton for the last two years, but I don't know how it is in comparison to McAfee.

I know McAfee used to cause bugs and glitches back in the day on WinME, so how is it with WinXP?

Does it catch/deal with more viruses than Norton?

Any detailed info would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I have Mcafee Internet Security Suite and love it. No bugs and stable as a rock and its really not a resource hog. I like it alot better than Norton, although Norton is good to. Mcafee's virus scanner is among the best out there. As far as detection goes I think Mcafee catches a little more, but not by much. I know people don't like Mcafee or Norton but I have had great luck with both them and really like Mcafee. Alot of people seem to reccomend the free antivirus programs but if you want the best protection go with a paid antivirus app. The free ones suck, they arent even in the same league as far as detection goes. Not to mention have trouble even removing viruses. You can't go wrong with Mcafee. Good luck.

I have no clue whether or not it's actually better in the sense of virus scanning, but I know that it's a lot lighter on the cycles than Norton ever is.

Still irritating that you have to pay to get updates though.

You should also consider Computer Associates eTrust. I've used it for a long time and have never had any issues with it. It is what Microsoft uses on all their corporate owned machines.

Not to thread hijack in any way, but my parents are looking to get a different antivirus. Is this the eTrust version you were referring to ua549, or do you run a more advanced version?

My version is similar, but older than the current version.

    I run 7.0.5.3 with the 11.9.1 engine.

Thanks ua549, I think I'll end up getting that for my parents!
