1.6ghz centrino duo vs. 1.86ghz centrino 750 solo

how much performance difference do you figure you would notice between these cpus everything else being equal.

Your only talking 200mhz! That's not much difference! I'd go with the Duo myself! The Duo will out preform the solo by a long shot, being able to run multiple programs at once without bogging the performance.

I would get the Duo. It will be faster then the Solo. Consider MTing.

your right, i will be doing very little with this laptop. i own a dell xps gen2 still in decent shape, i need something a bit lighter and mobile for very basic stuff. Thats why I am looking at these, I am able to get a new one very reasonably priced for a quite bit less then retail through a work discount.

Just thought I would throw the question out there. I know the duo cpu is decent but i wasnt sure how it compared to the mobile m 1.8ghz in comparison.

I think adding battery life into the equation would be an essential then. Would the mobile savvy sharks tell us which offers better battery life. I mean the Duos don't consume that much power at all, is there any significant advantage in battery life ?

I would personally vouch for the Core Duo myself.

Its interesting you mention that - one of the reasons I was leaning towards the duo was the proposed increased battery life for more cpu power. Reviews and articles claim it depends on a number of factors, obviously. Bios, chipset, processing tasks, etc. But everything else being equal power to battery life is definantly improved just not sure to what extent realistically although numbers are showing about 25%.

Both should do well with the battery life being as there both Centrino. Along with the battery life being better they will also run quite a bit cooler than the Pentium IV.
