    Company of Heroes

Am I the only one playing this?

I'm a bit surprised there isn't more buzz about this game. (Or maybe there was and I missed it )

Anyways... CoH is another WWII game, but it isn't a FPS. It's a really very good RTS.

There is a bit of the usual resource management, but beyond this is a really interesting depth. The level of realism is pretty astounding. For instance, the German Panzer tanks are much more powerful than the Shermans. But CoH accurately makes the Shermans faster, and the Panzers weak in the rear armor. Tank fights become interesting in a one on one basis as you scramble to manuever behind the Panzers without getting wasted.

It's also interesting that CoH incorporates a lot of FPS aspects into the RTS. Capture the flag is a big part of resource management. Essentially capturing flags is the way resources are gained.

CoH also makes full use of terrain. Again, moving a tank into a ditch to avoid fire is more like something out of Battlefield 2 than a typical RTS. Holding a hill or other strategic point really makes a difference. Tanks chug slowly up inclines and are vulnerable to ground troups with sticky bombs and Panzerchecks.

The graphics are good, incorporating all the new bells and whistles. Great smoke effects, good lighting. The only criticism I have is the graphics don't seem to warrant the toll they take on my machine. But at medium it runs smoothly.

What are the thoughts of other Sharks?

Everybody played this game and got sick of it two weeks ago...

I finally stopped playing on the level where you have to man machine gun nests and I guess hold off an attack.... It just got boring and repetitive. The had one level that was a bit different, you had to go into a V rocket facility. I don't think the game play was that great either. Soon as you click on a target the AI spawns enemies near a secured point at the back of the map. I remember one time I rush over hedge rows and all the enemies started spawning in the middle of my troops.

They say its better online by "they" I mean kamakazie.

I'm about half way through the campaign and it's getting a "little" thin , but I find the Multiplayer to be a blast(no pun intended)

Yep, I got to that V1 (or was it V2) level and sort of slowed my pace down. And since my laptop's RAM decided to half commit suicide (it's in a state of limbo currently) I haven't had a chance to play again.

Still, it's a great RTS, one of the few I've actually really enjoyed. I haven't played on line yet though. That'll probably be my next step.
