In all seriousness, pete's suggestion is software that will help in sound quality, compared to windows software and run lower on system resources, so you wont get the stuttering you might do with windows media players.
Your best bet for enriching the quality though is to go to the control panel once you've installed the driver and software for your SB X-Fi XtremeGamer card and alter the equaliser settings in advanced options.

I agree with Foobar for a quick (and free) bump in sound quality.
If you're looking for "toys" to buy, then get yourself a nice headphone amplifier. They are NOT just to increase maximum volume output... they actually change the way that your headphones sound for the better. If you are into toys, to go the forums over at http://www.head-fi.org. Head-Fi is the forum to go to for headphone enthusiasts. And sorry about your wallet.
