Post Need help with new system!

Well I just got in the last required piece for my new system, I put everything together turned it on, it posted, the T-bird was unlocked, but it wouldn't recognize the boot disk in the floppy drive! It keeps telling me Boot disk failure, insert system disk and press enter. Any ideas on how to get it to recognize the windows disk that I put in the floppy drive (I actually went out and bought the FULL version of ME for the new computer). Could it possibly be the raid setup (2 30GB barracuda's in raid 0)?

UPDATE: The problem is with the floppy drive, I had the bios check for the floppy and it says that there is no floppy...Only I know there is a floppy with a cable connected to the FDD port on the mobo (KT7-RAID) So now the question turns into, why isn't it recognizing the floppy as a drive even?

    Nothing to do with RAID.

FDD letter A goes after twist in cable, make sure pins are aligned and connector inserted correctly. Make sure FDD is enabled and not just set to check for floppy disk.

Yep, tried all of this and it STILL doesn't work. Could it just be a bad drive (or cable)?

Disk Boot Error, Insert System Disk ---- i don't believe it is even looking at the floppy drive .... it is going straight for the hard drive and not finding anything to boot from there.

Could be bad drive, un-powered drive, bad cable (but a power light will still illuminate druing POST if it is a bad cable).

    1) check to make sure the power cable is plugged all the way into the floppy.

    2) check the boot sequence in your BIOS to make sure the floppy is first

    3) if your floppy cable is not notched, make sure the end with the red stipe aligns with pin 1 on the floppy

    4) make sure there are no settings in your BIOS to ignore the floppy drive

    5) make sure the disk goes all the way into the drive. With some of the recessed ones it's hard to tell. You should hear some sort of click when you put it in.

I read somewhere(I think it was in this forum), that the kt7raid sometimes has problems with floppies. But they also said, that there will be no problems at all, if you use a Ls120 drive. That's just what I read. My kt7raid runs fine with the floppy drive I have.

    Question

Another update, The floopy drive was bad, I took one from my old computer (which still needs it btw) and it worked...now MS in all it's infinite wisdom gave me a boot disk that is...can you guess it...UNREADABLE I tried it in my old system after I moved the floppy drive back and it couldn't boot from it...couldn't even read the damn disk once I was in windows. Thank you MShit! So now I have 1 working floppy for 2 computers, no good win ME boot disks and a useless floppy I've got to send back on monday! Does anyone know how to make another win ME boot disk off the CD?

Did I mention MShit's setup crashed my old comp while it was checking out my system before even beginning to install Win ME?

For bootdisk: Like Win98 I'd think you could goto Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Startup Disk.

Are you just trying to install WinME? Isnt the CD bootable like win2K? If so, you dont even need the damn floppy I think the last time I used mine was like....2 years ago. Just go to you BIOS and make sure your CDROM is the bootable device....Then you should be ok.
    good luck

My bad floppy cable caused the erasure of my boot disk. so maybe microsoft sent it okay.

Bootable CDROM sounds cool. My ME upgrade manual said nothing about it so at least in the upgrade it doesn't sound like it

Oh guys, sorry thought this thread was dead, I fixed the problem a couple days ago.

I'm still waiting for my prophet 2 tho, stupid www.upgradesource.com keeps changing the time. First it will ship last monday, then I got mad and called them on friday, they say it's been shipped friday afternoon, call again on monday, they say it shipped monday afternoon. Really pissed off customer (me) calls them later monday and tells them to cancel the order they say, "sorry already shipped" I tell them that it'll just be coming back and they won't be seeing a 20% restocking fee from visa since they didn't have the courtesy to call me and say it wasn't in stock after the website said it was when I ordered it on the 24th, over a week ago!

That's my rant, sorry if it was boring.
