Password Protect My Wireless With Easy Password?

OK, I just password protected my wireless network. The only problem I have with it is that the password is a horrendous 26 character long string. I don't want the password to be this long and random. I have a linksys 802.11b router and when I go into the settings, WEP is the option I'm given for password protection, 64 bit and 128 bit. I entered a passphrase (one that was easy to remember) and clicked 'generate', then a long random-looking passphrase popped out, which I must use to log into the network. Is there any way I can set the password so that ultimately all I have to do is enter a simple phrase I can remember, in order to log in?

Typically with single use password programs that use Simple Key-management for Internet Protocols, SKIP, you enter a the pass phrase each time and a new password is generated. The best way to handle the generated password is to copy and paste it into the logon dialog. I use a 2048 bit SKIP product from Sun for accessing certain parts of my network. For wireless access WPA-AES is adequate. I do not advise using WEP since it is no longer secure.

Your Router is an old 802.11b o it is only capable of doing WEP.

The configuration of WEP is not as flexible as the later WPA and WPA+AES.

Instead of using a pass phrase make your own Hex string and keep it in a Text file.

So when needed, you can easily cut and paste.

i just use the same digit... ie the number 1, 26 times... i figure that if anyone really wanted to hack into my network, they probably would no matter what my security... but this simple code would thwart the common script kiddy and is eay for me to remember..
