BY NO MEANS ARE THE ATHLONS BETTER THAN THE THUNDERBIRDS!

Now that I've gotten that straight, I think the original Athlons are more expensive because AMD might've decreased production of the originals and increased production of the Thunderbirds. (Right??)

Lemme repeat myself: BY NO MEANS ARE THE ATHLONS BETTER THAN THE THUNDERBIRDS!

    Hope that helps.

I don't think classic Athlons are being produced any more at all. Because of that, and the fact that there is still some demand for them, the cost has to be high to ensure that they can keep some in stock. It's the law of supply and demand.

Also, the cost of producing the Slot processors is typically higher than the cost of producing socket processors.

the athlon classic/slot is more expensive because they're physically more expensive to produce, they're in limited quantity, in high demand, and they're a souvenir (spelled correctly?) of the beggining of competition in the cpu market space. ok maybe not that last one.................
