what are you talking about??! i don't see what does this have to do with linux/amd/3dfx fanboy threads. he is just telling us the troubles he's had with creative cards.

but the original message could have been more clear... like this part "Ok after getting an sb!live the audigy plat" ---> maybe "sb!live" isn't supposed to be there?

You again, when are you going to learn that Creative isn't that great, in fact I would venture to say they blow!

Ya know, maybe you had a great time with creative and they responded to your emails, and calls, and for some reason they update there drivers personnally for you. Hmmm, and people used to complain about ATI drivers on the video card forums, and they are nowhere as bad as creatives. Or there tech support for that matter.

Or you can say that if you have a problem, you should know how to fix it.

Pissing and moaning about companies is really dumb, when the vast majority of you have nothing to base your argument on. It's just becoming some sort of trend to dislike them, just like it was with Intel a while ago.

To piss and moan? I once bought a DVD-ROM (from creative) it broke down after 2 months) Barely used the thing. Just to watch DVDs. saw 2 in total. It just wouldn't spin (I guess) I called creative (watch out for hold time) And the guy say it would have to be replaced. I told him I didn't have the receipt and he said 'well, you'll have to be charged $30 to be repaied then) I told him 'the warantee clearly stated that if the product stops functioning w/in a year after purchaed that I would get it repaied for free. Wll, I finally argued w/ him to write a small memory that it said 'date of procution, february 2000' I was calling creative up in May. Well, he wrote the memo, and what happened? The guy who repaired my unit sent me a reburbished one (which worked) and informed me that because the date of production proved that the product was less than a year ago that my money order was returned to me. Technical support is ill-educated.
I agree that driver support pretty much sucks. I have WinXP. and yes, my comp's stable, but the card isn't as good as it ran back in WinMe. And don't go saying 'the audigy is out, can't expect that good of a support' Every other part in my comp that used WinMe work like they're suppose to and expected even under WinXP. Now, if a company sobig as creativ w/ so much dominican can't give DECENT support, then it's the company's fault. Nice and simple.

I have to say that creatives driver section on their site is appalling.. two choices of driver for Geforce2 (one from via, one from creative) and no clear info as to which one is better...

With regards Live! Again, two choices of driver and no clear direction as to which is better...

I don't think I should have to do 1/2 an hour of research to discover which is best/suitable... they should detail what I need to know on their site.

leave the poor guy alone. What I'M sick of is people like YOU that bash the **** outa people when all they need is help solving their problems. why the f|_|ck did they even make forums if all people do is dog those that need help? sorry to get all pissed but i see too many people bashing others that just need help; it's nothing personal crawling eye.

and raven, a possibility why your SB live is crashing your computer could be because of the PCI slot that it's in. I remember when i had my old system, i'd put my sblive 5.1 in one PCI slot and it'd start crashing like mad. Blue screens of death everywhere. Then when i switched the PCI slot, it didn't crash one bit. Give it a try n see what happens.

It seems (to me) that I'm a respected member around these forums, if someone is asking a question (which he didn't) then I'll answer their question to the best of my ability.

The PCI IRQ's could easily be changed via bios, without even changing the slot.

Now, when one of you have something of use to say, say it. I'd rather not hear threads saying "I hate 'company x'"

It really undermines the credibility of the thread to have anything of substance, and the same goes for you, tyteazzazn.

Come on Crawling eye, how you gonna go and say that threads like this are pretty lame. You stated 'vast majority have nothing to base their arguments on' The guy had an SB Live! and an audigy, which both didn't work on his setup. Bro, picture yourself buying once from a company, and giving you a deffective product. Buying again, and AGAIN, a deffective product. No offense, but that's a pain. Why buy from a company that just give you headaches that are cured either through tweaking it for several hours at times or buying a diff. card? or lets say you buy from a company that sells NVIDIA cards. You buy their card, and you have to be messing around w/ settings to get it to work. You give the company another shot, and AGAIN, they do the same thing to you you think this OK? (not to insult, or maybe I am? but you have low standards if this is true). I'm not understanding how these are not grounds for 'pissing and moaning'. Picture buying a cell phone from a certain (well known brand) store and it acts up on you. You then again buy another from the same brand. again, acts up. PIcture buying 2 printers (a few years apart) and both act up.
Having a product work OK out of the box and having to tweak it so that it works better, sure, that I can understand. Everyone has a diff. setup and diff. taste, so they would all require diff. tweaking. But out of the box have it run unstable?

I will now use ATI as an example. Not to bash ATI, because they have come along way w/ their drivers especially w/ the coming out of the 9700. The Radeon at first came out. The product was great, but the drivers sucked. It took almost a year before the drivers actually became stable enough to work easily out of the box. It took them 2yrs for them to compare to NVIDIA stability.
If the radeon gave headaches like that AND also on the Radeon 8500. Bro that would be a big turn off for most people. But hey, most of those people would just be 'pissing and moaning'. Come on crawling eye, picture having to have to 'tweak' all the products in your comp for them to work well. No, not well, but just be stable. Stable is in use IE or MS WORD and not have your system locks up.
(quick reminder, i'm arguing raven's complaint)
I'll agree w/ you are to an extent a respected member of this forum as you have heklped people w/ problems before, but when it comes to sympathy, you lack it.

I have to agree though, Creative's technical support does suck.

    On a side note:
One funny thought though... people 'piss and moan' about companies and you piss and moan about them. I like the irony
