Question What is best budget gamers video card?

I have an ATI Radeon 8500LE powered by Sapphire. What would be a comparable Geforce product to replace it.

The GeForce 4 Ti-4200 will be about the same, it will be a little faster though..

On a budget there really isn't anything you could get that would be enough faster than the card you have now to warrant the cost of the upgrade. The 4200 is barely faster than the ATi. If you aren't getting the performance you want, perhaps it isn't the video card, but the CPU/memory in your computer.

If you list your computer hardware, and describe the problem you are having, or the reason for the upgrade, perhaps we could better adress the problem/question.

I'd say the same thing. Blowing $150 for a slightly faster card is hardly worth it, especially since you said you're low on fundage.

If both cards were OC'd would they still be similar or would the 4200 pull ahead?

The 4200 is faster, but not enough faster to warrant the money for the upgrade because they said they were on a budget. If they aren't getting good performance, I think the problem lies elsewhere.

I would recommend that you get a Gainward Ti4200. That's the best bang for the buck IMHO. You can buy one of these from www.newegg.com

Well for the price of the 8500 and the ti4200 combined he could have bought a ti4600 or almost a 9700 pro even; I don't think getting a ti4200 to replace a radeon 8500 is a very good move for someone on a budget.

Either get a Ti4600, some form of radeon 9700, or the NV30 if you want a card from the BIG TWO. These cards will definately give you more performance but except for the ti4600 none are budget cards at the moment(Ti4600 will be considered a budget card fairly soon I believe).

I would suggest getting any of the Ti 4200 line.

Getting another 20FPS in UT2003 would be worth it to me, thats just my oppinion, and the performance jump would be even greater now because of nvidias new drivers.

    Good Luck.

    drivers

I am satisfied with speed of Radeon 8500LE however driver incompatibility with certain games in win xp is frustrating me, Warcraft 3 , GTA 3 and battlefield 1942 demo for example. Nvidia seems to be a much more compatible solution, or is it? Everyone indicates GeForce 4, what about Geforce 3 Ti 200?

right out of the box the ti200 will be slower for sure. you can get many ti200's up to ti500 speeds and beyond, and then they're pretty much comparable to an 8500, but again, for the price you're gonna pay for a ti200 you might as well just spend another $20 and get a ti4200, because the gf4 ti4200 is significantly faster than the gf3 ti200.

also, have you tried different sets of ati drivers to try and get those games working?
