The Asus P4S8X or the Abit Sr7-8x?
I was all set to go with the Abit sr7-8x, now I see the Asus P4S8x is on the shelves now. Now what?

Depends..do you want mere headaches, or migrains?

I prefer minor headaches to migrains Not sure what that means?

It means that they're both VERY buggy right now

The Asus P4s8x gets prety good marks for stability if you use DDR333, does not officialy suport DDR 400 yet. Seems we are kind of in a transition right now with mainboards. Tough time to buy, but I got to put something together soon. The Abit was kinda buggy from what I read online.
Both use the SiS648 chipset & have 8x AGP, lan, & sound. However the Asus has the serial ATA option, so I figured it would be more future proof.

RIP SiS :(
KJY's going by the stereotypical "blame it on the board" logic, which may be applicable for the many Via boards he has used, however ATi admits that the agp 8x with the R9700 is their fault and is releasing driver updates to fix it. They've even gone as far as saying that they'll replace an R9700 with a newer revision if it doesn't run agp 8x properly.
The DDR400 problem is a problem and should be fixed relatively soon with bios updates. The SiS 648 isn't to blame, the reference boards ran DDR400 perfectly fine as many reviews will note.
Now, back to the question. I'd get the P4S8X because of more features and Asus having better QC than Abit. Once there's at least 1 bios update problems should start clearing up.

Thx mark! It is settled, the Aus it is! I actualy like Asus boards as I've used a couple in the past without trouble. I figured this board with some Crucial PC2700 DDR333 will work nicely.
The friggin Chieftec case I wanted from NewEgg is now out of stock, geesh! I'm looking elsewhere for one now.

LOL where do you come up with this cr@p?!?
I've built with more P4 chipsets and mobos than you will in the entire next year....and undoubtedly more AMD rigs than you'll build in your life. Face it..SIS is an overrated POJ chipset. When you start competing with that POJ mobo you have...we'll talk ROFLOL

SIS and ATI...hand in hand..release it now....try to fix the bugs later. You going to buy his mobo from him when he realizes that he bought a POJ full of bugs?

I'm pretty sure I have built more systems in the last month then you have in the last year, I can tell you for sure that while sis has its problems its not as bad as you make it out to be.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
Intel BadAxe 2.0
Nvidia 7950GTX
4X1gb PC-6400 DDR-II
2xWD 74gb raptor striped

I'll take both those bets
