Looking for some good ddr.

Looking for some stuff that is pc2700 or higher. I hear crucial pc2700 is pretty good (performance wise and I assume overclocking since their pc2100 is so great at that). also I hear Mushkin pc3000 is really good as well (using samsung chips, but I hate those purple heat spreaders :rolleyes: ), as well as corsair (pc3000 and pc3200). I hear samung used to be really great when they use those ctl chips, but the dtl chips are so great. Anybody got anything to add to this? BTW, I'm looking for 512 megs sticks.

I am looking for some quality ram too. My Corsair pc3200 cl2.5 can only do ddr 400. It can do ddr 420, but it's unstable. I e-mailed Mushkin and this is what they said:

Hey Roger,
Right now we can't hand test our RAM to 450MHz DDR. We do offer PC3200 memory
in both 256MB and 512MB configurations however:

These are tested to run at 400MHz DDR and use the fastest 5ns chips we can get
our hands on. Usually they have good head room for overclocking. We do have a

for operation at 366MHz using 6ns chips so your chances of getting to 450MHz
will be much better with the PC3200 instead. Please let me know if you have any
more questions.

All I really want is some pc2700 that performs well at stock, and also can be oced a bit (like 190 or so would be a good enough oc). But I've been hearing about certain pc2700 makers that use oced pc2100, I just want to be on the safe side....

From what I hear, Samsung PC2700 is supposed to kick some serious ***, and it is also some of the cheapest PC2700 you can buy. Just about everyone I've seen with it can break 200 FSB without too much trouble... Last I checked, Newegg has 256MB sticks for $69 a piece, which is a hell of a deal.

Newegg is selling dtl samsung ddr333/pc2700. I'm not sure that will make 190FSB like you're desiring. The only sure thing is the corsair pc3200c2.

Hey aren't you one of the people that runs your crucial pc2100 beyond pc2700? Does the pc2700 from crucial have nearly the same ocing ability as the pc2100?

I got a stick of Sumsung 256mb PC2700 for $62 plus tax but haven't put it in yet. I didn't know if it was dlt or clt at the time but it turned out to be dlt. These are supposed to be hard to find these days, right? By the way, I didn't want to risk it by ordering online and get a clt so I got it from a local dealer.

googlegear is selling corsair pc3200 CAS2 512 sticks for like 188 bones. insane deal if you ask me, they also have the CAS2.5 for 165 and the pc3000 CAS2 for 163. for that price i dont think you can come close to beating these chips.

I'd get some Mushkin PC3000 CAS2 or Corsair XMS PC3000 CAS2, simply because if you're taking it to a max of 190fsb, you're not even at DDR400 speeds, so it won't really affect you much not having true DDR400. I'm sure CAS2 PC3000 can run at CAS2.5 PC3200 as well.

Go with the corsair, they perform better than Mushkin @ the same speed (oced or not). If you are just going to run it @ 166 (or even 133) I'd say stick w/ crucial as it out performs the corsair at the lower speeds (I think they are dead on the same @ 166), but I want to at least set my ram speed above 166. This is all in preparation for barton anyways.

edit: I just want to avoid thoser companies that slack on their pc2700, so I'll just get the pc3200 which is really just really good pc2700

Yes I am and not it doesn't. I've seen the pc2700 from crucial maxing out around 185-195 in online reviews. I've never seen what it can do with say 3.2v. But then again most pc2700 will run nearly 200FSB if you pump that much voltage in.

You may be correct, but not every single stick of ram in the world can handle higher vdimms. My Corsair pc3200 cas2.5 can't run stable above default voltage and it also cause my system files to corrupt.
