I just loaded XP Pro on my laptop system. The thing is, is it is a an old 166MMX PI, 72MB RAM (Type unknown), 4.3GB HDD, NeoMagic 1.5MB Graphics. Dell Latitude LM. XP Pro works great on it, no slower than it was before with 98SE, and the screen looks better. So far so good. I mean Hell, all I use it for is writing and bit of surfing and chatting. I just wanted to see if it would work and it DID!!!

I had a lady come in that had XP installed w/ 64MB of RAM and 166MHz cpu. I recommended getting more RAM, so she did get some.

Odd when I tried it on my 450Mhz PIII 128MB RAM it was slower then a dog. Hmm I have yet to try it on my T-Bird 1Ghz 256MB DDR2100. No doubt it should be smoother lol but for right now I am pretty comfortable with Windows 2000 + Service Pack 2 = Very Stable.

The minimum requirement AFAIK is only 64mb of ram because here..
That's a non mmx and 64mb EDO ram comp.

He disabled the Windows XP theme. Saves a good bit of RAM. Upto teh order of 10MB sometimes depending on theme complexity.

Is that screenshot of a PC from Louisville, KY, Sluggerfield? I went there this past May for that Intel ISEF stuff. Very fun. A lot of commotion near the galleria, Hyatt and Galt holtels .

Having the "pretty" themes enabled on XP do use quite a bit of RAM. Also, having all of the fading options, smooth sliding, etc (the advanced area when you right click my computer, etc etc).
If you have the RAM, might as well make it look pretty, right?
If you don't have the RAM and want to run XP, that's just something you're missing out on. :/
