$500 bucks. Bottom line: Show me A Screaming Gaming System ...

    $500.00

there are people who are crafty enough and certainly talented enough to build computers from this and that that total around a grand or more and thats been pretty much the MO for most of us. I was just looking for a barebones system for around 500 of my hard earned after school earned Bling-bling. It doesn't have to be the latest and greatest, just able to play all the latest games and some new and upcoming games. I want to get the most bang for my buck and with upgradable features for new CPU without shelling out much cash for a whole new MOBo~ ~know what I mean?

    $500 bucks.

CPU, MoBO, Ram, case, Hard Drive and Grapics Card. Bare bones systems ideas.

    All for $500.00

    anyone up for the challenge?

or Where else should I look?

    You guys and girls rock!

    welcome to SF

    cpu: amd athlon xp 1600+ - ~$55
    mainboard: "brand name" kt400 - ~$81+
    ram: samsung 256mb pc2700 - ~$75
case: find one locally, usually generic cases are cheaper, http://www.directron.com has great cases if you can't get one locally
    hd: samsung/maxtor/wd 40gb 7200rpm ~$77
    vga: ati radeon 8500 64mb oem (~$71) or "brand name" nvidia geforce4 ti4200 128mb ($138+)

personally i think you should wait a while. new mainboard chipsets are coming out and maybe some price cuts on components. hopefully ram will go down significantly. good luck

i would try posting this in the hardware forums, as opposed to completely custom.

~$450 - i'd shell out the cash for a sound card, network card, and more case fans, but that's just me.

if you're going AMD, i'd just stick with the KT333 - the KT400's don't have any real performance/price advantages over the KT333 motherboards.

yeah, stick with kt333, there's no advantage to going to kt400 right now. its ddr400 support is worse/slower than its ddr333 performance, and it's ddr333 performance is basically identical to the kt333 boards.

this should be in general hardware too...
