I prefer DVD Shrink + DVD Decrypter over anything else, but thats just my opinion.

In fact you don't really even need DVD Decrypter anymore, but I still use it cuz I rip alot of DVD's at a time before I ever start burning them and its more convenient for me that way.

    Can't give up DVD Decrypter!!!!!
It's still my choice for copying a non-protected DVD-5 disc.
Just rip an image in the ISO mode then write the image in the ISO mode.
I particularly enjoy the fact that I can rip from a DVD R/RW at 12X-13X from my DVD-ROM drive without the rip-speed limitations normally associated with ripping from a recordable (DVD-5) disc.

Makes copying DVD-5 fast and easy.

You'll need to convert them to DVD format(.vob, .ifo, and .bup) first. I assume you have them in .avi format?

I use WinAVI to convert .avi files to DVD format, then you can use DVD Shrink or Nero or whatever to burn them to DVD.

Another possible option is you could turn them into VCD's or SVCD's. Most stand alone DVD players will play either of those formats and its a fairly simple process to convert them as well.

I use TMPGEnc Plus to convert them to the proper format, and then I generally use VCDEasy to do the burning, but Nero will probably work as well.

    No you would not.
You would need software with a capture interface and DVD Authoring capabilities.

Yeah if you want to spend more $$$

And those programs are still converting them to DVD format, its just in one nice neat interface making it easier on the person who is maybe new to video editing.

That would depend on which version of Nero you have. Older versions of Nero may not recognize newer writers. If the writer was not around when that version of Nero was conceived then the writer would not be listed in the program's detection database. A newer version may be required.
Most burners are shipped with some kind of pre-mastering software. The three most popular are:
    RecordNow
    Sonic MyDVD
    Nero Express

DVD Shrink is great for what it is, but it won't do what meat322 is looking for.

meat322, Im not sure of any good, free apps that will do what you want. AVI2DVD might do what you want, but from my experiences it sure isn't easy to configure and takes a handful of other freeware apps to do all the things you are going to want it to do.

Im not sure if there is a nice, neat program like NeoDVD that does it all by itself and is free....

Also while your looking for tips on how to do this stuff, check out the guide section over at Doom9, they have an excellent variety of guides which is where I learned alot about burning DVD's etc.
