    Inexpensive external display question

    I find myself spending a fair amount of my computer time on my laptop in bed. I'll spend 1-2 hours/night. I was thinking about getting a TV for my bedroom to use as an external display. It will be used for gaming and watching movies. Since it will be connected to my laptop I don't need any "features" that they dump into these TV's as selling points. I don't want to spend a lot of money since it is not going to be my primary TV. I looked at an LG A6500 plasma which I am considering. Anyone have experience with Dynex? The Best Buy guy told me it was Samsung's off brand so used a lot of the same components. I know Vizio is a decent low end brand.

    I would recommend Vizio for any "secondary display" TV's. They are quality and have a good feature set for the money.

    Crusader for the 64-bit Era.
    New Rule: 2GB per core, minimum.

    This looks pretty compelling. I'm not sure what you can get for 700 in an LCD/LED TV.

    I wouldn't recommend a plasma for normal desktop activities, but they are great for gaming, movies, and such. The pixels aren't nearly as defined as LCDs. That makes reading text pretty tough, not to mention temporary burn-in. However, it makes movies and games look very organic compared to the sterile looks of more LCDs.

    For Plasmas, you can't go wrong with any of the big brands such a Panasonic, LG, and Samsung.

    The most important question is how far do you sit/lay away from the TV?

    I am a big plasma fan. I have been using a 50" Samsung B850 for 2 years now with my desktop. I will probably be watching from about 8 ft away. From what I read, the LG A6500 uses the same panel as their top end 9700 but with out 3D/internet smart TV stuff which I find useless.

    Anyway, here is a 46" with 3 HDMI and 7 Component inputs, as well as 1 Composite and 3 DVI. Can't go wrong IMO.
