My gaming PC ( Windows 7 pro 32, 5850 GPU, i5 ) that I have had for 2.5 years has always had problems with Bink / Bik video files. Over that time period I estimate I have upgraded by video drivers at least 10 times. I have also tried updating the Binkw32.dll.
Here is the typical problem:
The game will load with several bink intro videos playing in succession. If I can't skip the videos quickly, 9 times out of ten, the whole PC will freeze and I have to do a hard reboot.
Dirt 2 - came with my GPU 2.5 years ago - quickly hit enter to skip past the videos or else. The last bink video of the intro is hard-coded in the game somewhere because removing the video file doesn't matter.
Saints Row Third - the main menu has a 200mb+ bink video playing in the background. Game freeze when I reach main menu. Solution was to replace 200mb with another 350k simple bink video included with the game.
Rainbow Six New Vegas - Old game I reloaded last night. Freeze on intro videos before reaching main menu. Replaced intro videos with same 350k simple video from SR3 above.
Please share your suggestions on how to resolve this issue.
