What model Dell laptop do you have?
Laptops only take the laptop CPUs, the exception being a few from Sager and others that actually put Desktop components in a laptop enclosure.
*Edit: Also, your laptops cooling solution is only rated for whatever TDP the max CPU configuration offered on the system is. So for example, if you could put a 45w Core i7 laptop CPU in there at the most, then 45w is the max TDP CPU your system can deal with.
*Edit2: If this is the same Dell XPS L501x laptop from your other thread, then you have an Intel i5 480M CPU. This is a BGA-1288 mobile socket CPU. This is not LGA1156.
