    So close Dell, so close

New Dell Utrasharp U2713HM 27" monitor.

    27" 2560x1440 IPS screen
    LED backlight
    USB 3.0 hub built in
    Displayport 1.2!!!!

Amazing right? Not quite. DP 1.2 input. No output.

That's right, first DP1.2 monitor I've seen on the market, and it doesn't even have the one feature that would make it an absolute must buy.

Only thing I can think of is daisy chaining multiple monitors.

    Indeed.

It's really the only reason to be excited about DP1.2 AMD cards have it, with 2 DP ports able to drive 6 monitors. nVidia cards have it. But you can't do that unless you have an MST (which are MIA since their 2009 announcement) or DP 1.2 capable monitors with inputs and outputs. Even more, it becomes a great feature for companies who have workers with laptops, but who still want multiple screens. With DP1.2 you can go and connect 3 monitors to your laptop with 1 cable.

Not to mention that Haswell launches Q1 next year. At that point all GPU's, including the Intel integrated one are going to be outputting DP1.2. At the end of 2014, the VGA association has already EOL'd VGA and DVI in favor of DP going forward. It's about time we start seeing some daisy chain capable monitors.
