There really is no secret. I use a toothpick. The goal is to completey coat the die but at the same time keeping the application thin. Too much can CAUSE heat problem.

A small amount should be put on bother the HSF an CPU die to fill in the nonvisible holes and gaps in both surfaces. You don't need more than that, that's why thin coats.

is that all you need? So what am I going to do with this 5 gallon bucket that I got a good deal on?
It is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people that have a medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity.

You must want to get your resellers license and sell packets of thermal paste on the web.

Some folks just can't work with this stuff. The Artic silver is the best. But you need to apply it right.
Here is what you should do...Take an old tooth brush or razor..And spread it very very thin..The idea is not for the paste to transfer all of the heat. You only want it to fill in the micro gaps of air pockets.
To get this paste to work great. You need to grind the heatsink down on to the cpu. Don't break it! Just light twist from side to side till you hear some metal grinding is all. This lets you know you have metal to metal with only the air pockets filled.
The paste can be a little more hard to play with. So for those of you that care not for spending hours Modding your love shack. Then go down to radioshack and buy the 3$ cpu grease. It is tons easyier to work with.

Definitely put it on the die, then apply the heatsink.

I just put a ziploc over my hand and then apply.
