Retail Intel PIII heatsink removeal

I purchased a retail box PIII 800mhz and I cannot figure out how to remover the heatsink and fan. So if anybody has any ideas on how to do that I would appreciate it. Also do you think upgrading to a large heatsink and fan would make my proccessor able to overclock a little farther than what I am at now (896mhz). And does removing the heatsink void the warranty with intel?

Is your CPU a FC-PGA or a SLOT 1 model?
I had a retail heatsink and fan on my fc-pga 550, and it just popped off....
And to answer your question about overclocking....Getting a larger heatsink and fan is ALWAYS a good idea when you overclock. I doubt you'll be able to go any higher than youre at though.

Removing the heatsink does void the warranty. Using not just a larger HSF but one that moves more air [cfm] is also necessary. The 800e is not renowned for its ability to ride the 133Mhz FSB. You'll need something along the lines of an Alpha to achieve that figure. 1Ghz is also going to be a bit of a stretch without more cooling.

If it's a fc-pga chip you have, then you should notice a metal strip that goes through the bottom of the heatsink, and clips on to the socket. This strip sticks out a little further on one side. On this side, all you have to do is push the metal strip down, then pull it away from the socket. Should be easy after that. Not sure what to do with slot 1 things.

http://www.3dfxcool.com/install/p3.htm tells you how to do it and I did it to put on a gorb. In a nutshell from my experience :

- Get a case screw (small enough to fit through the 4 holes of the casing on the pentium three (holes are located on the silver sticker side).
-Put the screw facing up so the side you screw the screw in is facing the table top.(the pointy side facing up.)
-Try to fit the screw slowly into 1 of the holes I just mentioned. Once you got the location down just use extreme force to push the pentium towards the table.
-Repeat for all 4 holes

Just so you get this right: when you're pressing down on the p3, the side you can see should be the side with the stock thermal grease on, or basically the flat side of the heatsink.

you ask about voiding your warranty by removing the HS/fan yet you overclock it...so why would you care about voiding the warranty? YOU ALREADY DID...
