Post Simple Question on memory with my mobo!

HI, I wanted to know if 128mb ram running at 150 mhz is compatible with my mainboard. It says in the manuel that my mainboard only support sdram 100/133 mhz. Thanks

The ram rated for 150mhz isn't going to be running 150mhz unless you have your front side bus overclocked. It will run just fine at 133mhz. Soon as I get some sleep and get the other comp set up I can point out a couple of good guides. One which comes to mind first is right here at Sharkyextreme. The ns or nanosecond ratings on each actual chip of ram is the speed rating of the chip defining what mhz the chip is actually rated to operate at. Such as 7.5ns is 133mhz and I believe 7ns is 143Mhz.

OK thanks.... SO what brand should I go for? Corsair, Crucial, or kingmax. According to these three memory which one is the best and which one is the worst?

Personal preference, warranty, price, and frequency/latency rating are the things you will have to base that decision on. If you've decided those are the three you want to go with, I'd first suggest the Crucial ram. I've been seeing ocz.safeshopper.com pop up a lot lately when people are looking for memory.

I agree with Vindir, crucail is very solid and at a good price! www.crucial.com Even if you get a PC133 CL2 stick, it most likely wont have any trouble hitting at 145mhz @CL2. Changing CL2 to CL3 in the bios while lowering the preformace of the ram, will allow you to overclock it higher using the Front side bus.

So what does it mean whne memory is describe like this... 2-2-2?

Cas rating and the 2-2-2 timings are basically the latency of the chip. Although I'm pretty good with fsbs/ram ratings. The in-depth of cas latencies is one of my weak areas. I can tell you that settings of 3-3-3 are directly related to memory running with a latency setting of 2-2-2 is 17mhz behind. So 133Mhz Cas2 = 116Mhz cas3. I really need to brush up on my memory knowhow as this is a popular question lately and I've had to point people at guides every time it got to this point. It shouldn't be too hard to find on www.sharkyextreme.com . If you don't manage to find it make sure to post it and I'll be sure to point you to a few good guides once I get off my lazy bum and get my athlon up and chugging along again.

Yes you need to set your ram at 133MHz then up your fsb to reach 150MHz, the manual says that because running the memory at 150 is not a standard like 66/100/133.

If you want some good memory I highly recomend the OCz pc150 2-2-2. You can get 256MB for $129.99.(two sticks of 128) It was made to match the Mushkin Rev3 which is one of the best out their for AMD and VIA. Or if you are going to do some serious overclocking I suggest you do as I did and buy the OCz pc160 2-2-2 for $109 a 128MB stick. These are hand picked and tested to these speed so their is no question that they will go that high The sticks have Micron or Infineon chips same as Mushkin. http://ocz.safeshopper.com/11/cat11.htm?487

    Here's a good primer http://sysopt.earthweb.com/articles/latency/

Maybe it's not so clear in the article, but Tclk is what you were originally asking about. Tclk = 1/bus speed. So Tclk for PC100 is 1/100Mhz=10ns. Here's a quick chart -

    bus | Tclk | Tcac CAS2 | Tcac CAS3
    (Mhz)| (ns) | (ns range)| (ns range)

    100 | 10 | 10 - 20 | 20 - 30
    112 | 9 | 9 - 18 | 18 - 27
    124 | 8 | 8 - 16 | 16 - 24
    133 | 7.5| 7.5-15 | 15 - 22.5
    150 | 6.6| 6.6-13.2| 13.2-20
