    Question BX6 SoftMenu II?

I looked at the BIOS of my original (v.1) BX6
and noticed in the SoftMenu -- "Turbo Frequency" and it was Disabled. Does anybody here know what T.Freq. is? and what would happen if I enabled it? Could it be harnful to the stability of my puter?

    Cool

    That Turbo Frequency thing.

It's something that Abit builds in, they say, for testing purposes. What it does is bump the FSB about 3%. So, at a 100 Mhz nominal FSB, you'd actually be running at 103. Depends on the processor you're using, but, usually the increased speed will show up on your BIOS screen. Be advised, though, that you'll need to manually set all your processor settings (FSB, multiplier, core voltage if you want to deviate from the default) AND disable the Speed Error Hold in order for it to work. Failing to do this could cause the machine to fail to boot properly.

Otherwise, if your processor can take it, no harm and you pick up a few million extra processor cycles. If it can't take it, you'll know it by the boot up problems and random errors and crashes :-)
If it ain't broke, BREAK IT. Then fix it.

    Red face

Thanks Tom - for the input on this, BTW I am presently using a PII 400 in this BX6 board. Sounds kind of SCARY to fool with it after what you tell me about causing it to not boot up etc. IF I don't do it right.
Guess better wait till can afford a new mobo and prpcessor - probably my 1st AMD product BUT read so many horror stories about problems using even the highest rated mobos and AMD Athlon cpu's. Doesn't cost a dime to sit/wait till someone really finds some stability I guess. What surprises me is how here and there you read the expert reviews of say the A7V or KY7 boards and they say "stable like a rock" then you go to the forums and read "WOE is me!"
