omg, am I an idiot?

I got my 8kha+, was all happy, and installed everything. I didn't update the bios because I heard that it had problems with the 8500. Now people are telling me that without the bios update the board doesn't support the sse functions on the XP. If I wanted to update the bios now, would I have to reinstall my OS's for it to get full sse support?
