Why isn`t glide performance ever tested in video card comparisons?Alot of games use glide but I never see a voodoo cards glide performance shown.

Cuz Glide is 3dfx only, and most newer games use opengl now, even Glide is easier to code.

    Hi Jonndo,

We can't really think of a Glide game that is a worthwhile benchamrk. As great as Unreal TOurnament is as a game, it's not a good benchmark.

The Turok2 thing is getting on a bit too...

I wondered that too. And s3 metal too. I wonered how S3metal was, but NEVER saw an artile on it (except WELL before the s4 was new) and never saw a benchmark that used the Diamond Savage2000 (i dunno what its called) card with S3 metal. Too bad, now that the savage line of grafx accel.s are dead.

    Thumbs down

Yeah I hear you. The most strange thing about the whole S3Metal Unreal Tournament and Savage 2000 thing was the whole "no S3Metal driver support" for the S2000. Crazy...

Well, for one thing, it's rather pointless as a general test of video card power. That is, Glide performance doesn't really translate to a large number of games, as few games support Glide. However, you can expect any game that does support Glide to offer a substantial CPU overhead reduction, as well as sometimes an effective fillrate increase (Due to closer management of the hardware). This is to be expected with any proprietary API.
