Anandtech wrong?

Stop me if I am wrong, but Nvidia does not make cards, and wasn't it ATi that first introduced image improving features with the Radeon?

Actually, it was 3Dfx, with the original Voodoo. Anyone remember first seeing Quake in OpenGL?

What about the Charisma engine on the Radeon, or was that MS?
I am still sure that ATi was the first company to tote image quality enhancing features and that Nvidia caught on with the GF3.

3dfx presented in November 1996 their Voodoo1 graphics board. This was the first computer 3d accelerator card and 3dfx the first company who brought 3d graphics to PC's.

S3Virge/DX/GX series didn't actually have 3d acceleration. For example Diamond's Stealth 3d 2000/3000/4000 cards couldn't calculate textures (via texture mapping). Simply S3 was claiming to have the faster chip back then, compared to Matrox's Millenium/Millenium2 boards.
The first card who implemented 3d acceleration was the Voodoo1. This was the first card who used the memory for texture mapping. For the history Voodoo1 had 4MB RAM, 2MB buffer memory and 2MB for textures.
In fact, S3's first 3D accelerator was the S3Savage. Crappy thing IMO.

IMO the Savage 3D wasnt Crappy, driver support was crappy.
With that thing u can use auto Trilinear in EVERY game without a single FPS lose, and it is the first card with S3TC, and auto DXTC option in Direct 3D.
But drivers, well, thats another story

That Anandtech reviewer must be some new kid whose first video card was a Geforce2. 
Anyone who's been around in the do-it-yourself scene for more than 2 years knows that Matrox and ATI were the 2 companies who made Image Quality a selling point over just speeds. ATI's Rage Fury cards ran great in 32bit colour while Nvidia cards slowed down horribly in 32bit colour.
nVidia and Voodoo cards were the ones people bought for Speed. I mean anyone looked at the image quality in TNT cards? Terrible. People used to buy Voodoo and Nvidia cards and run them in 16bit colour to boost frame rates in FPS games. Thats about all. Now when Radeon is still the king of image quality, NVidia must have bribed the reviwer to say how they (Nvidia) care for image quality over speed. If they cared for image quality, why does the GeForce2 line still suck compared to Radeon?
Nvidia never cared for image quality. Period. Has Anandtech 'sold out'? Nobody but a complete moron would say what they did.

Man With Nothing To Lose
I believe the most significant step in consumer-level graphics for increase visual quality (besides the venerable Voodoo Graphics) is the Voodoo5's FSAA. Sure other cards have it and do the same, but the Voodoo5 was the first *consumer-level* card available to introduce FSAA...and it still the best in quality to this day.
