RAID question
I was wondering if i could do this on my ABIT KR7A-RAID mobo using two different HDD's: have my two cd-rw's and my DVD drive on the normal IDE channels, then one HD one one raid channel as the C: drive and the other HD as the D: on the second raid channel? Is that possible? What would i have to do if it is possible? I would be installing only one hd and one cd-rw for OS install at first to get everything up and running. Then i would be adding the second HD, second cd-rw and DVD drive.

I think this would be a good setup for either RAID 0 or 1:
RAID Channel 1 = HD1
RAID Channel 2 = HD2
IDE Channel 1 = CDRW1
IDE Channel 2 = DVD + CDRW2
Have fun . . .

If you're not using your drives in a RAID array, the raid controller will act just like another two IDE controllers.

That is excellent news since i need to be new drives before i actually setup an actuall RAID array. There would probably be something in the bios then to make sure it boots from the raid controller then? So my setup would look like this:
IDE1 -> Plextor 12x cdrw
IDE2 -> DVD Drive as master, Acer 6x burner slave
RAID1 -> 32gig HDD
RAID2 -> 26gig HDD
with no raid array
i hope that works, since i'll be trying it this weekend

Just curious but how do you go about configuring them for that? I think that's a dream come true for me because I planned on having 2 hard drives, not mirrors and about 5 IDE devices. (2 CD-RW/ DVD/ Zip/Floppy)

My recommendation:
RAID/IDE1 = HD1
RAID/IDE2 = HD2
IDE1 = CDRW1, ZIP
IDE2 = DVD, CDRW2
Your floppy has a dedicated channel. I'd recommend RAID 1 for your two HDs and that way you can toss the ZIP drive, no longer needed!Have fun . . .
